Love In Tokyo

Photography Credits Emily Jane Photography for All Ze Details

Fremantle thrives with many fashion creatives thoroughly showcased during Fremantle Fashion Collective, a runway boasting of local talent dedicated to the fashionably talented city of Fremantle that is just south of Perth. Just after the runway I caught up with designer Sheree Dornan of the label, Love In Tokyo. The collection encompassed draped fabrics, with subtle tones, that could easily be transitioned from season to season. Sheree shares the inspiration behind the collection, how she prepares prior to the runway, and what hot spots are must-sees in Perth.

What was the inspiration behind this collection?
This collection is the Boro[d] Collection. I've drawn this reference from the traditional Japanese Boro textiles technique of mending cloth with patches or scraps of fabric to further the life of a garment or household item.

The digital print design is derived from an image of layers of large panels of hand dyed silk organza that I've patched and stitched with over-dyed silk cloth pieces, patches of digital prints from previous collections and garment pieces. The end result of the print is quite different to the original panels with the distorted images and colors giving movement to the deign complimenting the draped form of the garments. I've constructed the garments from the digitally printed and hand dyed fabric and also over-dyed some of the garments.

How do you prepare for the runway?
I've done numerous runway shows over the past 11 years so it's always exciting but not as stressful as when I first showed on a runway. I do run on adrenaline on the day and the day after.

What woman wears Love in Tokyo? For the latest collection - what celeb do you see wearing your designs?
Definitely confident women who know what they like and are not particularly swayed by trends, wear my pieces. Women from the creative industries also form a large part of my client base. I design two labels - Love in Tokyo plain silk pieces, and my signature Sheree Dornan which is more bespoke and hand worked. Each piece is individually designed and constructed by me this is the label shown in the Fremantle Fashion Collective runway show. I have dressed a few celebrities including Alison Whyte and Dawn French wandered into Love in Tokyo while working in Australia and loved the store. All of our customers are celebrities in my eyes…although I would love to dress Cate Blanchett.

What jewelry do you see this collection being worn with?
I usually do my own jewelry collections to compliment my designs but because of time restraints this time I asked Stephanie Labrousse who designs beautiful La Boheme jewelry to supply jewelry for the runway and also Kelsey Kelsey Ashe who designs Ashe textile products for her stunning clutch purses. I think it all worked extremely well together.

What is the ideal travel spot you could see this collection being worn?
Anywhere exotic. Morocco, Paris, Prague

What inspired you to design? What inspires you before you design?
It's hard to define what inspires me. I have constant light bulb moments that can come from anywhere. I love taking photographs and often one of those images can be the catalyst for a print design. The garments are constructed by being draped on a mannequin so often are created, as I work.

How is Fremantle Fashion Collective beneficial for local designers?
It draws attention to the wealth of creative fashion talent located in Fremantle.

When tourists visit Perth -- what spots would you refer them to, to enjoy your city?
Fremantle is number one of course! Rottnest, Cottesloe Beach, Kings Park, niche areas with small bars, cafes and interesting retail strips - we have it all here in Perth!

What is currently on your playlist?
Ministry of Sound, St Germaine

What was the inspiration behind the color pallet and pattern on the latest collection (as seen on the FFC runway) I love colors that are a little bit muted, and dulled - rather strong, bold colors. By overdying fabric I can achieve subtle variations of each color. Shades of teal, rust, moss and chartreuse are some favorites. I only produce very limited quanities of each print design and often overdue smaller lengths of these so each garment is very unique.

CAPE LEEUWIN

We embarked on a fantastic journey down south to tour vineyards, caves & capes all in one road trip. The coastline was stunning and everything was breathtaking under the earth in the caves, up in the sky in the Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse looking forever into the ocean, and stopping to get our head out of the clouds for relaxation at the unreal beaches of the Margaret River region in Western Australia.

I could not help to bring along a stunning skirt I had custom made from Fame & Partners which is a part of the Lace Debutante two-piece on the Fame & Partners site. I do not know why I always navigate to black, and why my entire wardrobe is 80% black in color -- I just love wearing black and I love the classic elegance of the color, the simplicity of the color. I had to pair with this gorgeous pink piece -- I completely have a princess moment every time I wear it.

With the stunning backdrops of the Margaret River region and the stunning elegance of the Fame & Partners Lace Debutante skirt I did not hesitate to pursue to improv a quick shoot. I went from ponytail - climbing caves all day and no make up to quickly switching settings (from work out mode, to dress mode) to throw on my skirt for a completely magical moment. That's my life though - always switching gears to capture magical moments. And this one is one I won't forget.

Thank you to the Margaret River region for such a magical time!

Dresses are easy to throw on and to easy to take from work to weekend by simply adding in new accessories and layering with other apparel to transition easily into colder seasons.

A cocktail dress that is a little longer in length pairs perfectly with a jacket for work. For a corporate look pair it with a structured solid jacket. For the weekend,  or for colder seasons pair your cocktail dress with a fun jacket that plays with the structure of the dress. This dress has peplum detail and is backless so a Peter Pilotto jacket was added that plays with the structured peplum detailing on the dress, and it is belted which adds to the peplum detail.

A simple, structured black dress can be used for various events; Wear it as a wedding guest, on vacation, a honeymoon getaway, date night or a night out with the girls or co-workers. This is also perfect for prom, and can be accessorized to create a formal look. Black dresses can be accessorized with any color of accessories or shoes.

This is the perfect transitional dress, the Cindy Dress from Fame & Partners - easily transitioned from season to season and perfect for various events. Change out shoes & accessories to get various looks out of this dress.

I put together a race day ready look with a beautiful and unique fascinator from Perth designer Reny Kestel. You can shop her collection, online, here.

DHANGETHI ISLAND MALDIVES

Photo Credits Haili Pue All Ze Details

During our holiday in the Maldives, at Rangali Island we were taken to Dhangethi Island as a part of one of the stops. This was one of our first stops along the way to a deserted island, where we had booked a lunch this day of our Maldives. We had the opportunity to see how the locals live in the Maldives on this island and our tour guide was a local from this island as well and was able to show us around to the shops owned by the locals - and to show us how every day life was on this island. This was a part of the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island tour as we made our way to the deserted island a few more miles away from Dhangethi.

It was so vastly different than the island we stayed on only a few miles away. It was an eye opening experience to see the parallels of the resort and local life.

If you are planning to book with Conrad Maldives for any upcoming vacations you can book various packages to explore around the island including a Whale Shark dive with a research team, and this lunch tour included various stops along with lunch on a deserted island as the last stop of the tour.

B-A-N-A-N-A-S

Photo Credit Emily Jane Photography for All Ze Details

Thanks to Gwen Stefani, we all know how to spell bananas, and thanks to Perth store Ethel & Leo we have a whimsical banana pattern to wear. This pattern is fun & bright on typical beach pants to wear this weekend while hitting the beach for Valentine's Day. Something simple and comfortable to throw on. And I dare you to put them on without signing Gwen Stefani's song, or dare you to put them on without the song popping in your head.

This pattern also comes in a fun beach dress, skirt, and top - all available at the Claremont location.

The Versatile Valentine's Day Dress

Photo Credits Christa Elyce Photography for All Ze Details

Wedding season is upon us, and the light-and-airy bridal gown is scarce. That was until the Gemma gown. Although I'm married, trying on bridal gowns as evening gowns with a lot of sparkle is not off-limits. As a petite girl, alterations are always in order, and this gown fits like a glove.
It was almost Valentine's Day, and I was trying on dresses and gowns until this gown caught my eye. I had to try it on, and it was the perfect excuse. The gown is the perfect trend to focus on for brides this spring and summer. For brides seeking a beach bridal gown or something a little more airy and sweet, it is just right, with a vast amount of sparkle to make it completely formal.
The dress I tried on is transitional enough to be altered into a high-low dress for prom. With neon accessories - bright fuchsias, yellows and turquoise, it gives it the right amount of color to make it pop, perfect for a prom dress.
This gown is approachable and doable; the sparkle and shine gives it a modern elegance. This gown is ideal to use for formal events, weddings and/or prom this spring and summer. I paired the gown with gold earrings from Velanch, and a pearl clutch, from BHLDN in the shape of a heart to give it an elegant and fun touch.
Gowns of this nature can be paired with shoes that sparkle in a silver and gold hue. You can also take a fun approach and pair it with colorful formal shoes. For brides who are taller than the groom or girls attending prom who are taller than their date, pair it with formal flats that sparkle or have a pointy toe.
Take a cue from the in look this season - wardrobe is light and airy with an incorporated touch of sparkle and shine. Try the trend by incorporating sparkle into your wardrobe even through accessories.
