Audrey Hepburn: Portraits of an Icon Exhibition and Style Inspired by the late actress

Audrey Hepburn has long been an inspiration of mine from a young age. Her style impacted me in such a way that I cater to conservative fashion rather than what is on trend; as she was the poster child of following your own sense of style instead of trends, as she did not fit the "woman" of her generation (with short bangs, a flat chest, and a style all of her own - partially due to the works of Givenchy) Audrey Hepburn has always been the epitome of style, to me.

Audrey Hepburn: Portraits of an Icon went on exhibit at the National Portrait Gallery as soon as I had made my move to London. I took it as a sign of the stars aligning to make me feel right at home in a foreign and unknown place; It was God telling me to get comfortable and that this was the right move.

Audrey Hepburn: Portraits of an Icon is on exhibit until October 18, 2015 and is a exhibit dedicated to the early launch of her career on stage in London as a chorus girl, through to the UNICEF work she did towards the end of her life. The rarely seen prints of Hepburn are work from photographers Cecil Beaton, Richard Avedon, Terry O'Neill, Norman Parkinson, and Irving Penn - each photographers that worked on-and-off with her throughout her career. The exhibit was was organized with the support of Audrey's two sons Sean Ferrer and Luca Dotti, in which Luca made a personal appearance to the exhibit and you can hear his interviews with the National Portrait Gallery. Also making a personal appearance was the lovely lifelong friend of Audrey Hepburn, Givenchy himself in which he released a fabulous memoir to Audrey, To Audrey With Love. Heavenly sketches compiled into one lovely book, that is now available in the shop at the Gallery as well as here on Anthropologie.

The lovely exhibit houses a pair of Hepburn's own ballet shoes, and a wall full of Audrey Hepburn magazine covers. I was in absolute heaven in this exhibit - learning new things about my favorite actress; which is a rarity. I seem to always be an Audrey Hepburn know-it-all. It was fantastic getting to learn new things about her, and to see new images.

Alongside the exhibit, since July - the National Portrait Gallery has done a fantastic job of aligning events such as conferences and Audrey Hepburn film showings during the time of the exhibit. I have attended the Audrey Hepburn: Becoming a Modern Icon lecture by the exhibition's co-curator Helen Trompeteler, Audrey Hepburn: Assessing an Icon lecture, as well as the Breakfast at Tiffany's screening at the exhibit hosted by Rooftop Film Club which included cocktails and a private showing of the exhibit, which was also promoted by Harper's Bazaar UK.
